Order or Customize itSerotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is unique among the monoamines in that its effects are felt by as many as 13 distinct heptahelical, G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and one ligand-gated ion channel (or more). These receptors are divided into seven distinct classes (5-HT(1) to 5-HT(7)) largely on the basis of their structural and operational characteristics.
Shown here is the general structure of the 5-HT1-class of these GPCR's. This structure is based on a homology model and molecular-dynamics simulation. This illustration represents an accurate look at the the receptor structure.
